Great CD player – east to operate and looks good too.
Not many options on the market in this price range, glad I waited for it to be back in stock.

I’ve been going back to my vinyl and CD’s. While I really like listening to the vinyl now, I have so many CD’s I still love as well. This CD player is extremely good quality, with the basic features I wanted, and the fiber output I wanted as well. And it looks great in the media rack above my ne Yamaha receiver!

I have had this CD player for about two weeks. It works as expected, and the music from audio CDs sounds great.
I wish the remote had backlit buttons. I wish the text and graphic icons on the remote were larger as they are hard to read. I wish Yamaha had used brighter and bigger printed text and graphic icons on the player as these are also hard to read. I wish I had better eyesight. But I, like many whom I suspect buy single disc audio CD players in 2022, am an older consumer. I am happy to be able to play music from these shiny discs that I have and continue to collect.

I bought this player and initially had all kinds of issues with it. It would skip on CDs that play fine on other players and would have audio pops that sounded like static from a vinyl record. I was about ready to give up on it when I saw online that there was a firmware upgrade that you can install via the USB port on the front. Figured it was worth a shot and to my surprise it fixed pretty much all my playback issues. Player works well now and sounds good. If you buy this, make sure to check if yours is running the latest firmware.

Simple hookup to my receiver . . . the remote has all the features that you could want . . . played some scratched CDs with no problem.

The CD player seems very solid and plays perfectly. There are various options, like playing music from a thumb drive, which I am unlikely to use but is no doubt a good thing. Setting up was exceptionally easy.

After dealing with a failing multi-disk player, it’s great to have a well-priced single disk player.

I still have many music CDs in my collection and have music files in several formats. The analog RCA jack outputs are essential for connection to my legacy HiFi equipment. Random play option is nice because I get tired of hearing songs in the same order. Or let the music play in the original order on CD. Your choice.
This unit has simplified my listening room configuration too; replaced Blu-ray player that was not intended for playing music.

I am a 67-year-old lifelong audiophile. I’ve owned my share of gear, both modest and expensive. I most strongly recommend the Yamaha CD S-303 player.
First, this player actually works. I have a Rotel CD11 Tribute that cost $600 (as opposed to the price of this one) and it has not read discs, skipped, etc.
Secondly, I love the sound of this player. It runs quietly and plays even my burned CDs (CD-R) without fuss and sonically – well, I really don’t see a difference from it and the pricier cd players.
You can dim the display which is not annoying LED blue to begin with. It’s a soft whitish color with a tint of blue I’d say.
There’s a co-axial out if you choose to run a separate DAC. I do not because I feel the sound quality of this player is excellent.
It has beautiful Yamaha styling.
I first bought the predecessor to this player – the CD S-300. Also great. I liked it so much I decided to get the 303 as well.
It has never, never, never misplayed a cd. That alone should count for someone trying to make a decision on buying this vs. a different brand player.
I see that Yamaha has discontinued the higher priced players, and I do hope they keep making excellent, decently priced players such as this.
