Create an immersive home theater experience, enjoy smooth 4K/120 gameplay, and deliver whole-home audio when you create a home entertainment system with the Sony STR-AZ7000ES 13.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver. Seven HDMI inputs (four 8K) combine with 13.2 channels of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-based audio, for movies that look amazing and surround you with sound from all directions. Support for the latest in HDR technology enhances this experience with deeper blacks and rich contrast. Dual HDMI outputs and Zone 2/Zone 3 functionality allows two different rooms to watch their own UHD content, with a third zone enjoying audio playback. Playback from local or online sources, thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet connectivity.

8K HDR Cinema with HDMI 2.1
The seven HDMI inputs and dual outputs support the HDMI 2.1 specification, which enables higher quality content thanks to low-latency technologies, such as ALLM (Auto Low-Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). Video content at up to 8K resolution is supported, in addition to 4K at 120 Hz for smoother next-gen gameplay. To improve realism, the STR-AZ7000ES supports many HDR standards, such as HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, and IMAX Enhanced.
360 Audio & Theater-Like Surround
Supporting 13.2 channels of audio at 150W per channel, the STR-AZ7000ES allows you to fill your space with enough speakers and subwoofers to replicate a theater environment. Supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, object-based and height effects make compatible movie soundtracks come alive. This kind of fidelity is applied to music as well, with Hi-Res, Hi-Res Wireless, and 360 Reality Audio support, making you feel as if the artist is with you in the room.

These audio technologies are joined by room calibration technologies that work to create a sound reproduction that’s custom to your environment. 360 Spatial Sound Mapping reproduces a physical sound field to emulate a movie theater or concert hall. Digital Cinema Auto Calibration IX precisely corrects the distance, angle, sound pressure, and frequency response of each of your speakers to create the ideal sound field.

Center Channel Audio
Three different center channel modes can be used to alter how this primary speaker is used when watching TV and movies. Acoustic Center Sync matches the audio to your compatible BRAVIA TV. Dual Center Speaker uses a second speaker to more accurately replicate sound when using a large screen. Center Speaker Lift raises the center speaker sound to match what’s on TV.
Wireless Audio
Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet connectivity, you can stream music, podcasts, and internet radio from a local media library or hundreds of online services. The STR-AZ7000ES supports Spotify Connect, Chromecast built-in, and Apple AirPlay to expand your streaming options.
Works with Sonos
The STR-AZ7000ES is made to work with your existing SONOS speaker system. From the SONOS app, you can turn on the receiver, switch to the desired input, and adjust the volume.
Voice Control
Using Google Assistant and working with Google Home, the STR-AZ7000ES can connect to compatible smart speakers in your home, letting you use your voice through them to operate the receiver.
Sony Music Center
With the Sony Music Center app installed on your smartphone or tablet, you can remotely control various aspects of the STR-AZ7000ES. Control source selection, zone, sound field, volume, media playback, and setup your voice assistant.
Roon Tested
Seamlessly integrate the STR-AZ7000ES with your Roon system for full access to all of your music, including digital files and streaming services in one place.
Robust Construction
The solidly built STR-AZ7000ES features a newly designed frame beam base chassis with an increased thickness for additional rigidity. Inside is a new DAC that supports 32-bit processing of PCM and direct native DSD signals. There are also a variety of newly designed components and circuit boards that all work to reduce resonance, lower impedance, and provide a more stable, clear audio signal.

  1. JRREF

I have the Sony AZ7000ES for a couple of weeks now and am very pleased with the AVR. Sonically it’s superior to my Marantz 7012 AVR which it replaced. Also for my home theater the dialogue is clearer so in some cases we don’t need the closed captions on anymore. The room calibration system is also very good and easy and quick to use. There is a bug where with the volume up, you hear a thumping noise coming from the sub woofer when moving around the menu’s of my AppleTV for example but I understand Sony is aware an will be fixing this in a future firmware update.

  2. Garren

The Sound fields in this receiver are superior to anything else I have heard. Accurate

and immersive sound. Sound calibration blows the other room corection systems

    out of the water.

  3. Ferdinand

As a longstanding Sony ES customer, I’ll start off with the things I do not like about the STR-AZ7000ES:

    1. No HDR10+ support.
    2. No QMS support.
    3. No QFT support.

With that out of the way, this thing is worth every penny. I have owned a number of ES and non-ES AVR’s over the past several decades, and nothing sounds as good as this thing.

Setup and calibration is easy. The on-screen UI is easy. The web browser is great as it does everything the on-screen UI does. The iPhone app is simple but equally as effective. The remote control leaves a little to be desired, but it’s not a train smash.

The STR-AZ7000ES has range and power for days. It just keeps going.

It does get a little warm (okay, very warm), so I added the AC Infinity Aircom T10 to keep it nice and cool. I highly recommend this for any AVR owner, as AVR’s are notorious for running hot, even when they ship with their own in-built cooling fans.

The 360SSM does sound quite innovative and interesting, but I prefer to watch content without it as I have a full 7.2.4 speaker system. If you have fewer speakers, 360SSM can help fill in the missing channels.

The upmixing of 2-channel stereo music into Neural X is actually pretty good. I was originally a 2-channel purist for music, but Neural X does a great job of expressing all the high-frequency instrumentation and vocals across a 7.2.4 speaker system, while keeping all the low-end in the subs.

As for movies, stop the press. This thing really shines especially in Dolby Atmos that has been properly mixed and engineered in the studio.

In summary – do yourself a favour and get it!
