Playing Peter Gabriel’s The Rhythm of the Heat. Bringing down the house. The Beatles 2018 White Album and Abbey Road. Beautiful. Plenty of bass and highs. Paired it all up with a Rotel MKII and a pair of KLH Model 5’s. Extremely nice pairing for authentic vinyl reproduction. Everything sounds loud and clear, no hum or fuzz when playing vinyl through the Rotel’s phono amp. This turntable has gold-plated connectors and according to the us.technics website (https://us.technics.com/products/direct-drive-turntable-system-sl-1500c-k) lots of separation in the components to reduce noise. This is an excellent pairing for my needs. I do not know if I will use the auto lift feature. But nice just in case. Highly recommend this turntable in this price range. Extremely rigid and heavy build. I looked at a few other turntables in this price range and sure, you can get a Rega Planar 3, very cool, but I just felt that it was too fine and delicate for my setup. Plus I decided I didn’t want a belt drive. I guess I’m not a purist. I wanted something beefy, and this is a beast with refinement. Super quiet and beautiful, matte-black version. Highly recommend it.

I owned the classic SL-1800 fully manual table back in the 1970s and loved it. Recently purchased this SL-1500CW model. The main problem I am having is the built-in MM phono preamp has too low gain of 37dB. This makes MM cartridges with output levels between 3mV and 5.5mV range from 212mV to 398mV at the RCA line input of your amp or preamp, this should be 0.5V to 1.0V nominally.
A preamp gain of 45dB would be a better solution: so, cartridges from 3mV to 5.5mV would then range from 533mV to 978mV at the RCA line input of an amp or preamp.
I am sure there is no way Technics would change this, but I will contact them and see if they can send me the modifications for my turntable.
it is also strange how long it takes for the “auto pickup” feature to work. At first, I didn’t even think it was working, but then I left the room for a few minutes and came back.

Great turntable. Very easy set up. It’s striped down so not lots of “features” but that’s why it’s so easy. I connected to a McIntosh rs250. Seamless great audio. If I had one wish it would be pitch adjustments, but I get that’s not what this is for.
