Experience the pure and simple joy of quality vinyl playback with the NAD Electronics C 558 Manual Two-Speed Belt-Drive Turntable. NAD Electronics has a rich history of offering well-built components with a focus on sound and the C 558 turntable continues that tradition.

Seeking to strike a balance of quality and value, the C 558 combines a glass platter and solid MDF plinth with an isolated precision AC motor for accurate and consistent rotation. The 9″ tonearm allows for vertical and horizontal balance adjustment to improve precision and reduce wear. A fixed headshell comes preinstalled with the Ortofon OM 10 cartridge, which is well regarded for excellent tracking and neutral tonality. The RCA phono level output will need to be connected to a phono preamp and a high-quality RCA cable is included to make the connection.

Precision AC Motor
To achieve accurate rotation, the NAD C 558 uses a sophisticated power supply that transforms the AC voltage of your wall socket into pure DC voltage. Then the DC voltage is regenerated into a precise AC voltage that powers a precision clock motor to achieve nearly perfect speed consistency and smoothness. The motor is isolated from noise and voltage fluctuations that occur in the raw unfiltered AC mains that can cause instability in the motor. The motor uses a specially developed rubber belt that is flat ground for precision and drives a non-resonant sub platter that is also precisely machined for smooth rotation. This sits in a brass bearing with a hardened steel shaft. All of these parts are carefully developed to work together to provide remarkably stable and precise rotation of the disc.
Adjustable Tonearm
At 9” long the tomearm offers low tracking distortion while maintaining rigidity and low mass required to stabilize the cartridge. By allowing VTF and Azimuth adjustment the C 558 can achieve precise tracking with low distortion and record wear.
Quality Parts and Materials
The plinth is solid MDF and is CNC machined for precision. The dustcover, too, is heavier than most and made from a non-resonant Perspex with a counter-sprung hinge design that allows the cover to remain in almost any intermediate position from open to closed.
