The iBasso D16 Taipan is a high-fidelity portable DAC/amp that embodies audio excellence. At its core lies iBasso’s in-house-developed FPGA–Master2.0, employing 16 sets of cascaded 8E PWM-DACs, culminating in a total of 128 discrete PWM-DACs for unparalleled 1-bit D/A conversion. This remarkable engineering achieves a measured THD+N superior to 0.0001%, top-ranking performance for a portable discrete DAC. The D16’s amplifier section mirrors the acclaimed DX320MAX, employing a high-quality Class-A transistor amplifier for pristine audio reproduction.

Equipped with both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone (PO) and line (LO) outputs, the D16 Taipan offers versatility for various headphone and power-amp connections. Its amplification delivers up to 1125mW at 32 ohms, ensuring the capability to drive a wide range of headphones, earphones, and speakers.

FPGA-Master2.0
The FPGA–Master2.0 represents three years of iBasso’s algorithmic advancements, driving the D16’s exceptional performance. This advanced FPGA meticulously reorganizes and recodes signals, generating precise PWM signals for subsequent PWM-DACs. It features a sophisticated noise shaper that significantly reduces the noise floor, crucial for maximizing dynamic range.

Global clock regeneration, powered by dual Accusilicon femtosecond oscillators with an ultralow phase noise of -158 dBc/Hz (at 1 kHz), ensures exceptional jitter control. Picosecond-level precise delay control aligns signals perfectly, compensating for board wiring delays.

Furthermore, the FPGA–Master2.0 enables 128 independent PWM-DACs to operate in FIR mode, combining to deliver L+, L-, R+, R- outputs with meticulous delay and alignment compensation.

Discrete PWM DAC
After the FPGA generates the PWM signal, it arrives at the discrete PWM-DAC for decoding, employing 16 sets of an BE PWM-DAC cascade—with 4 sets per L+, L-, R+, R-, for 32 PWM-DACs (more than 6.4 times than with a standard DAC).
Hardware Analog FIR Filter
Harnessing the picosecond-level precision of FPGA–Master2.0, the D16 implements a Hardware Analog FIR Filter. Each channel utilizes 32 PWM-DACs in delay parallel mode, functioning as a hardware analog FIR filter. By averaging the differences between these multiple DACs, distortion is minimized, resulting in enhanced sound detail and depth.
Class-A Discrete Amplifier
The D16 features a Class-A discrete amplifier, inspired by the DX320MAX, delivering 1125 + 1125mW at 32 ohms. This powerful amplifier incorporates 20 low-VCEsat (BISS) dual transistors, providing an impressive output current capability of up to 2A.
Cutting Edge Components
  • 128pcs low-temperature drift 0.1% high-precision 25ppm thin film resistors
  • 24-position, 4-section stepped attenuator with a channel tolerance of less than +/-0.1 dB
  • Dual Accusilicon ultralow-phase-noise femtosecond oscillators (-158 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz)
  • Professional audio DSP chip (192 dB dynamic range, -174 dB THD+N)
  • Ultralow-noise analog power supply (0.6pV noise)
  • 1.3″ OLED display
