Aimed at audiophiles and music enthusiasts, the high-fidelity FiiO K5 Pro ESS, styled in black, is a compact desktop USB DAC and headphone amplifier designed to faithfully reproduce your music when listening to audio from your computer, smartphone/tablet, or other digital music player. The K5 Pro ESS improves on the K5 Pro by employing the high-resolution ES9038Q2M ESS DAC to deliver richer audio details and a superior performance at up to 768 kHz sampling rate and native DSD512. Compared to the last generation of this product, the distortion is reduced by 50%, the crosstalk for the line outputs has greater channel separation, and the dynamic range has increased by 3 dB.
Equipped with RCA analog line inputs, optical and coaxial digital inputs, a USB-B port, RCA analog line outputs, and a headphone jack, the K5 Pro ESS acts as a bridge between your computer, phone, speakers, and headphones, allowing them to work together seamlessly. Switchable low-, medium-, and high-gain levels are available, enabling you to use the amplifier with almost any headphones at comfortable volume levels.
- The XMOS XUF208 USB decoding chip equipped with the clock-matching management system allows decoding up to a sample rate of 768 kHz / 32-bit and native DSD512.
- The next-gen ES9038Q2M DAC allows outstanding sound performance with accuracy and precision in playback.
- The carefully tuned feed-forward amplifier circuit design increases the power output of the TPA6120 op-amp by more than 60% for a total power output of up to 1.5W under a 32-ohm load, and up to 20 V p-p at 300 ohms.
- The K5 Pro ESS easily powers any low- or high-impedance headphones (16 to 300 ohms).

Overall FiiO K5 sounds pretty decent, but there are much better value options at this price point and lower. It definitely gets the job done, has background audio, and does what it says. To get the most out of the DAC you do need to install the drivers from FiiO. If you do not, they still sound same, but the volume knob will act odd where it doesn’t increase audio consistently as you turn it.
If you are willing to spend 40$ more, you can get a Schilit Magni which is much better. However, if this is on sell for 120 or less it’s a pretty good buy.
