The Apple 13″ MacBook Air features Apple’s first chip designed specifically for Mac. The Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Tackle your projects with the fast 8-Core CPU and take on graphics-intensive apps and games with the 7-core GPU. Accelerate machine learning tasks with the 16-core Neural Engine. Complete with a silent, fanless design and up to 18 hours of battery life, the MacBook Air is still portable, but now a lot more powerful. It also has 8GB of unified RAM and a 256GB SSD.

With over 4 million pixels, the 13.3″ Retina Display features a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display also features up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. With True Tone technology, the white balance automatically adjusts to match the color temperature of the light around you for a more natural viewing experience.

Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and use compatible wireless peripherals and accessories with Bluetooth 5.0. The two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide USB4 support and can even connect to the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution. Apple also included studio-quality mics for clear recordings and calls. There is also Apple’s latest camera ISP in the M1 chip, which enables sharper images and more details in shadows and highlights in video calls. Keep your MacBook Air secure with Secure Enclave in M1 as well as Touch ID. The backlit Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience, and the Force Touch trackpad allows for precise cursor control, pressure-sensing capabilities, and Multi-Touch gestures.

Please note that this MacBook Air can only output to a single external display with up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz.

This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility.

Apple M1 Chip
Packed with 16 billion transistors, the Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 5nm process technology, the Apple M1 delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The Apple M1 features four high-performance cores, each designed to run a single task, which allows for multithreaded workloads. There are also four efficiency cores to handle lighter workloads, using only a tenth of the power while still delivering fast performance. This means the Apple M1 performs up to 3.5 times faster than the previous generation while still delivering battery life up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours of video playback.
13.3″ Retina IPS Display
With four times as many pixels as an HD display, the 13.3″ Retina IPS Display provides up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. The Retina Display has a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display glass goes right to the edge of the screen, making the bezels 50 percent thinner than before. Moreover, True Tone technology automatically adjusts the white balance to match the color temperature of the surrounding light.
True Tone Technology
With True Tone technology, the display delivers a more natural viewing experience for design and editing workflows, as well as everyday tasks like browsing the web and writing email.
Touch ID
The advanced security and convenience of Touch ID is built into the MacBook Air. Simply place your finger on the integrated Touch ID sensor and your MacBook Air unlocks. Use your fingerprint to immediately access locked documents, notes, and system settings. You can also use Apple Pay securely during checkout while online shopping. No need to enter shipping or billing info, and your card details are never shared.
Magic Keyboard
The Magic Keyboard on this MacBook Air features a scissor mechanism that delivers 1mm of key travel. There’s also a physical Esc key and an inverted “T” arrangement for the arrow keys. Combined with the Touch ID, the Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable, accurate typing experience.
Thunderbolt 3 with USB4 Support
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also supports USB4, allowing you to connect to more peripherals, including the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution.

Writing my review on it now!

This was the easiest and best purchase I’ve had all year. Granted it’s only February, but still. Loved that I had to sign for the computer and that I could keep track of the delivery the whole time, I knew exactly where it was each step of the way.

The computer itself is incredible, super fast, and excellent for small editing projects, working on the go, and longevity of battery life. Seriously I’ve been editing podcasts, writing, watching videos, editing videos, and photoshopping logos, and I haven’t plugged this thing in for about 3 days. I’m at 38% battery life, I’m so happy! I absolutely love it and thank you so much to B&H for the reasonable price and fast shipping so I can get it.

Who needs an M2 Macbook Pro?

For just $594.30, this machine will be able to take my daughter from sophomore in high school through end of college. This replaces a really old second generation MacBook Air. The screen is sharp and contra sty, apps launch in half a blink of an eye, keyboard keys are nice and have a good feel. The rest is basic Apple, just works and now in a light, speedy, and cool running package. Not to mention the almost-full-week schoolwork battery life.

Highest recommendation possible. The M2 version is 20% faster, but not worth the higher cost and doesn’t necessarily extend the usable life span for our use case.

A great value even in 2023

What can I say? The M1 MacBook Air is still going strong nearly three years after launch, and it still packs a good punch for portable workloads.

    Easy to appreciate

This featherweight laptop is easy to appreciate. For starters, I’m pretty close to a typical user–web snooping, email, photo editing, YouTube videos, and fairly light multimedia work (video editing in DaVinci Resolve and recording VOs)–and this MacBook Air is ideal.

The weight is perfect, light without feeling too light to be well made. The screen hinge is perfectly weighted. The screen has optimal brightness for indoor use, and the color accuracy is impressive so as to make photo editing a breeze. While 8Gb RAM seems skimpy in this era of 64Gb uber alley, the Mac OS makes 8Gb work more smoothly than my PC laptop with 32Gb. The speakers are a pleasant surprise–loud and clean (above 200Htz). The USB-C connection slots are very much appreciated. And the battery lasts me nearly all day long, and it charges relatively quickly.

As for nits to pick, it simply needs more access ports and an SD card slot. If you shoot a lot of pics or video content, and want one of these for editing, budget for an outboard SSD. Which brings me to the second nit: a 256GB SSD may be a concern for many. Thankfully, external SSDs are affordable.

For users like me, this is an ideal laptop, especially for the money.

The best laptop I’ve ever had

This laptop is the best in many ways. What I like about it is the lack of an active cooling system, which usually makes noise under heavy load and quite often gets clogged with dust even when working at a desk. This laptop is absolutely sufficient for any office tasks, as well as for fairly resource-intensive tasks like video editing and photo editing. The only thing that may be missing in the minimum configuration is the amount of disk space for storing data. In such a situation, it is enough to buy an external SSD drive.
